2010 LA Auto Show: Mitsubishi shows US version of Mitsubishi i-MiEV EV
Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV electric car isn’t anything new to us. However, one that brand showed at 2010 LA auto show isn’t the same Japanese version that it has used to introduce to the press. The changes include dropping MiEW from the name, steering wheels shifts to the left and the size goes bigger to the US market, allowing for a wider cabin and US safety equipments. With its US specification bumpers at front and rear makes car almost one foot long, 4 inches wide and increases weight by 160 pounds.
The Mitsubishi’s i electric car is powered by an electric motor that generates 16kWh. Electric motor get vital juice from lithium ion battery pack, located under the back seat and in front of the rear axle, that propels the four-seater to get 100miles in mostly city driving. The Mitsubishi i has three way charging system: standard 110, 220-volt and a quick-charger system, charging the battery in 16h,8h, and 80% in less than 30 minutes respectively. The 2012 Mitsubishi i electric vehicle goes on sale in the Western United States in November of 2011, at a price Mitsubishi expects to be about $30,000.
