2010 LA Auto Show: BMW releases photos, details of 2012 650i convertible

In order to make its appearance felt at the 2010 LA Auto Show, BMW has dropped the details and images of its production ready 2012 650i convertible without trotting the drop-top onto the show floor. The model will go on sale in USA in the spring of 2011, tagged as a 2012 model.

BMW 650i is powered by automaker’s twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that develops a moderate 400hp and 450 pound-feet of torque. Engine is mated to a six speed manual or eight speed automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels, enabling the racer to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The sprint time remains the same with ZF 8-speed Sport Automatic gearbox.
The car measures 4,894mm long, 1,894mm wide, 1,365mm high, with its wheel base starching to 2,855. In its overall dimensions, BMW 650i is 74mm longer, 39mm wider and 9mm shorter in height to its predecessor. The vehicle can be driven in Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+ modes. it’s an electrically powered soft-top rood with flying buttress architecture that allows the roof to open and close in 19 and 24 seconds respectively. The operation can be performed when the vehicle is at speeds up to 25mph.
In comparison to its predecessor, new car has 29 percent greater body strength and 50 percent greater static torsional rigidity. Trunk space is 300 liters of DIN with convertible top open and 350 liters of DIN with the roof closed. Additionally, there is a huge LCD display and numerous other technological features include standard driving dynamics dontrol, brake energy regeneration system, LED fog lamps and lights rear-view, top view, and side view cameras, and an optional Active Roll Stabilization feature.
