Mercedes Benz reveals the images, details of new SLK

Mercedes Benz has officially reveled the details and images of new SLK, which was accidentally unveiled on a French-language video late last year. The two-seater SLK roadster is to debut at brand’s 125th birthday in Stuttgart by the end of this month. Featuring an all new rear wheel drive platform, SLK feature sportier chassis and is also available in diesel version.

The new model is supported by wider tracks and variable damping control that will be offered in an optional agility package. SLK will be offered in three engine options to choose from. Engine options include a turbocharged 1.8-litre for SLK 200 with 184hp and 270Nm of torque and 6.4liters/100. Again, a turbocharged 1.8-litre for SLK 250 with 204hp and 310Nm of torque, using 6.2liters/100km. And finally a SLK 350 with 306hp and 370nm of torque while using 7.1 liters/100km.
The SLK 200 is equipped with six speed manual transmission and sprints from 0-62mph in 7.0 seconds; whereas as the SLK350 with 3.5-litre direct-injection new V6 gets a seven speed automatic transmission. Apart from this, SLK 350 has a number of fuel-saving features, including stop-start, it offers vastly improved performance and economy. Sprint time taken from a standstill to 62mph is 5.6sec and a combined fuel economy of 39.8mpg.
Additionally, Mercedes is going to offer the new SLK with diesel engine, which is a twin-turbo, 2.1-litre four-pot with 204bhp. A replacement for the SLK55 is also destined for the UK by the end of the year. It will use a normally aspirated version of AMG’s new 5.5-litre V8, producing close to 420bhp.
